The Blue Flute and the Pink Saree

Pranjal’s work sits at the intersection of the sacred and the contemporary. In this piece, the traditional Mithila depiction of Radha and Krishna is stripped of its serene background and thrust into a head-to-head, intimate collision. The blue of Krishna’s skin is rendered not as a flat wash, but as a deep, saturated gouache that seems to vibrate against the flat, sun-bleached yellow of the board. The composition is restless; the figures lean into one another, their profiles almost touching, creating a tension that is both tender and electric. It is a reworking of the divine that feels entirely human—caught in the quiet, heavy moment before the music begins.
