The Red Field and the Patterned Fish

Pranjal's work lives at the intersection of the ancestral and the architectural. In this piece, a singular, oversized fish swims vertically through a field of saturated, unbroken red. The fish itself is a study in restraint within chaos—its body is a cubist mosaic of black and white linework, segmented into scales, geometric bands, and floral motifs that echo the intricate, repetitive strokes of Mithila folk art. Surrounding the red centre is a dense, breathing border of interlocking black loops on a white ground, creating a visual tension between the organic subject and the rigid, almost lace-like structure that contains it.

A striking original watercolour and fine-liner ink work on paper. The composition is dominated by a vibrant crimson central panel featuring a stylised fish rendered in a complex, monochrome geometric pattern. The piece is framed by a wide, intricate border of hand-drawn interlocking loops, creating a rich textural contrast against the smooth, bold red. The vertical orientation and high-contrast palette make this a powerful statement piece for modern, gallery-style interiors.
