The Almighty - Jai Jagganath

In this piece, Pranjal reinterprets a traditional Mithila deity—likely a form of Krishna or a village guardian—through a contemporary, almost pop-art lens. The artist strips away the naturalistic skin tones of the tradition, replacing them with a solid, striking jet-black canvas for the face. This bold choice is immediately offset by the wide, white eyes and the heavy, stylised red lips, creating a mask-like presence that feels both ancient and futuristic. The figure is dressed in a heavy, striped blue and red garment, adorned with a necklace of white beads and vibrant, red roses blooming from the chest. The entire composition is set against a flat, electric yellow circle, reminiscent of a traditional Madhubani sun or a modern icon, grounding the intricate detail of the face in a field of pure, saturated colour.

An original acrylic painting on canvas featuring a stylised, black-faced deity. The portrait is defined by its bold outlines and a rich palette of royal blue, crimson, and saffron. The figure wears a traditional turban decorated with paisley and floral motifs, while the garment is detailed with vertical stripes and a floral garland. The work is framed by a luminous yellow circular background, characteristic of Pranjal’s fusion of Mithila folk traditions with modern graphic sensibilities.
